Excursion TOK1 - 7 Hours - £140pp

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, also referred to as Tochō for short, houses the headquarters of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which governs the 23 wards of Tokyo, as well as the cities, towns and villages that constitutes the whole Tokyo Metropolis.

Located in Shinjuku, the building was designed by architect. It consists of a complex of three structures, each taking up a city block. The tallest of the three is Tokyo Metropolitan Main building No.1, a tower 48 stories tall that splits into two sections at the 33rd floor. The building also has three levels below ground. The design of the building was meant to resemble a computer chip, whilst also evoking the look of a Gothic cathedral.

The two panoramic observation decks, one in each tower on floor 45 (202 metres / 663 ft high), offer superb views across the sprawling city.

Shibuya, literally meaning "Astringent Valley", is a special ward in Tokyo. A major commercial and business centre, it houses the two busiest railway stations in the world, Shinjuku Station and Shibuya Station.

Asakusa is the centre of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally meaning "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives.

Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.  Here you will be able to enjoy free time to shop and purchase lunch (at your own expense).

Tokyo Skytree is a broadcasting, restaurant and observation tower in Sumida. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (829.8 metres/2,722 ft).

You will take the elevator to the first viewing level at 350 metres where panoramic views across Tokyo will only astound you.

A drive past the current Imperial Palace located on the former site of Edo Castle, and through Ginza the high fashion centre of Tokyo will complete this tour.
